University Village believes that in order to build a sense of community, you have to be ENGAGED in the community!
Florida Gulf Coast University is a campus that places a high emphasis on community involvement and civic engagement. In addition to many others, FGCU is the hub for an amazing organization called Camp Kesem. Camp Kesem provides a free summer camp experience for children who have been impacted by a parent with cancer. In 2017, FGCU was added as the newest chapter and the first camp session will take place this Fall.
The Camp Kesem team, lead by a group of passionate FGCU students and Non-Profit Administrators, has been diligently raising money to ensure that the youth in our community can enjoy this experience. University Village made the decision to donate money to this cause because we believe in the importance of providing support and encouragement to people as they work through and cope with the effects that cancer can have on a family.
We are also excited to announce that one of our very own Community Assistants, Danielle, applied and was chosen as a Camp Counselor! We are so incredibly proud of her and look forward to seeing the impact that the Camp Kesem Family will have on the FGCU Community.
